Re: Stevenston - On This Day In History

Thanks PT. Your knowledge of this tragedy Is admirable. Obviously the poor souls who suffered in that place, including my father, had no other choice of employment at that time. Or were the employees paid a lot extra because they were doing a dangerous job? Were they aware of the dangers? After so ma...

Re: Stevenston - On This Day In History

Glenshena, The honest answer to that question is, I don't know. I only post what I stumble across when I read 'old' newspapers, and there are many publications still unread. Tomorrow, for example, I have a fatality to report from 13 March 1970, and another one the following day, from 14 March 1970 ...

Re: What's the latest movie you've seen?

Just sat through Oppenheimer - that’s 3 hours of my life I’ll never get back. If you haven’t seen it, don’t rush. Meg Well Meg, I haven't seen It but according to the rest of the world its the best picture ever, winning 6 or 7 oscars. I'm tempted, but I couldn't sit for three hours to watch a movie.

Re: A Stroll round 1960s Saltcoats

For whom It might interest, the Metropole night club in Hamilton street (ex Regal cinema) re-opened last week. Dont know what It looks likes inside, but they could have improved the exterior which Is badly scraped. I dont think there Is a fish and chip shop left now on the whole of Countess street a...

Re: A Stroll round 1960s Saltcoats

Its sad to read all these articles on the shops in Hamilton street that I knew so well, grew up with. There wasn't an empty shop in the whole street. What a difference now. Hamilton street Is full of pulled down shutters, and now the double windows of the closed sports shops is a real miss to the st...

Re: Happy birthday - Glenshena

Thanks to all for your birthday wishes. I had a lovely lunch with family in our favourite sea food restaurant. But It says a lot when my gifts this year were track suits and clothes fit for my phisiotherapy sessions. When I look back to my early life with no TV, no telephone, no car and think what w...

Re: Sinner the Winner

What a nerve wracking final, lasting nearly four hours! But he won in the end and he's only 22! A real pleasure to watch. I'm sure he'll be winning many more in the future.
Well done Jannik!
