Saltcoats Bathing Pool - late 1950s

https://i.imgur.com/ddPz1xE.jpg Meekan has asked me to upload the photo above. It was taken in the late 1950s and was published in a newspaper. People in the photo include Angus MacDonald, Jim Black, Bobby Thomson, the McCreadie twins and Mac McLaughlan. Does anybody know any other folk, exactly wh...

Re: Provost Lamps

There are two photos of a Provost´s Lampost on http://www.ArdrossanPhotographs.net . They are listed in the left frame under Provost´s Lampost. The lampost is now on display outside the Civic Centre in Ardrossan. I guess that this one is the original Ardrossan Provost´s Lampost. It has been refurbis...

Re: Unnamed Ardrossan Streets, walkways... etc...

Hughie, you asked about unnamed streets in Ardrossan. There are two mentioned on http://www.ArdrossanPhotographs.net under 'street with no name'. The first one runs between Hunter Avenue and Parkhouse Road and the second from Stanley Road to Whitlees Farm.

Re: The 'Coal Rea' in Ardrossan

Mitchy, you asked about the spelling of the Coal Rea. I remember it and guess that its name was a local pronunciation of colliery, a colliery being a coal mine and it associated buildings. Although there was no coal mine in Ardrossan, the place where trains delivered coal for the local merchants' lo...

Re: The Glen, Ardrossan

Thanks, Penny, for your reply. Your suggestion that the picture could be of Glenfoot House certainly has merit. Glenfoot House Hotel, as it is now known, was built in 1859 according to http://www.seamillhydro.co.uk/glenfoothouse.html so it existed when the postcard was posted in 1913. If you look at...

Re: How you found threetowners - Topic for March 2009

I learned about the ThreeTowners website in an article in The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald on 12 May 2000. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength. Thanks for great idea, Hughie, and to all who contribute.

Ardrossan in 2007 DVD

Former and present residents of Ardrossan may be interested in a DVD called Ardrossan in 2007. It takes the viewer on a two and a quarter hour journey through Ardrossan to see the town as it was in the year 2007. Every few days from 1 January to 31 December, recordings were made to capture the town’...

Re: I would like the reunion to be ......

In 2000, I attended a school reunion in the Seamill Hydro. It was excellent, mainly because it was not 'over-organised'. There was a welcome address, a buffet, a short speech and a bar. Participants spent the evening doing what they came to the reunion for - blethering to folk they hadn't seen for y...
