Re: I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!
Meg, I never came in contact with Mrs. Revie but she sounds the type of hero I had in mind. I think she came after my time. I'm almost frightened to ask but am I correct in interpreting your 'post' to read that Mrs. Bush was "the teacher from hell" - because if I was asked for my favourite...

Re: I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!
Colmac, There's much merit in what you say. I definitely had to work hard to achieve any successes but the point remains that Mr. Hendren pointed me towards a profession that neither I nor anyone else had contemplated nor were likely to. I certainly wouldn't have selected it if left to my own devices

Re: HOW WE MADE MONEY!
Aileen, Thanks for another wee jog of the local memory banks. I had long since forgotten about the alsatian. I had mischief in my mind on many a day only to be thwarted by him. If he was truly friendly it was never a side of his personality I witnessed. He did his job well. Can you answer something ...

Hughie, Thanks for that. I don't know how I came to omit Mr. Kirk. I did know him, of course, and recognise the huge contribution he made to schools football, certainly in my day. I did not know however, about his brother playing for Hearts in the late 50's. If this is the case he is likely to have ...

I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!
Following on from a conversation between myself and "JOCKMG" [on the THREE TOWNERS WEBSITE thread] regarding something he might say to his brother, William, with whom he is hopefully soon to be reconnected after 30 years, I casually suggested that we should perhaps begin a 'TRIBUTE' thread...

Re: Winton Buildings in Harbour Road
Someone will tell you for sure but I suspect that may once have been the Custom and Excise Office and if so, being a Government establishment, they would fly the Union Jack on designated public holidays and other nominated days.

Re: 54 New Street, Stevenston - Would love any photos
Morag, My recollection of the good quality football pitch and the running track are clear - what I was trying to remember was whether or not I might have changed somewhere in the school and accessed the Rec Grounds directly through a gate from the school - viz. through the gate, on to a grass embank...

Re: 54 New Street, Stevenston - Would love any photos
I'm an Ardrossanite but thought the photos were super too - I must have been in Stevenston more than I thought because they brought back memories of the town. Would I be right in thinking that playing schools football I might have changed somewhere in Stevenston Higher Grade and passed through a bac...

Re: HOW WE MADE MONEY!
Little Plum - you have flabbergasted me - at the start of this thread I drew up a list of my own re all the ways I made money and this was one I thought would never come up - my older brothers taught me to get down the South Beach in Ardrossan on the first windy day of Autumn because the sand was bl...
