Lynda,

this is brilliant. What a social comment on today's society.
It has obviously been around since 2000. It mentions Christmas 2000 being put back to 2001.
Where did you find this?

Catherine, I just sent you a post about Sam McLellan by Willie Auld. I was nosing about the site the other week and saw your recollections. When you were in Hawthorn Drive, your backdoor backed onto ours in Castle Avenue. We lived at number 8. We moved there in 1948 or thereabouts. I don't think you...

Catherine, John Donnelly here. I was brought up in the Boglemart. My father had the newsagent's across from the Grange. We moved there in 1953. There was a Sam McLellan through the wall from us. He lived above Louis Boyd's grocer's shop. I remember he was an awful nice man. I estimate he would have ...

Hughie,

The name is completely made up. Again so as not to have anybody confuse it with any real person or family.

I hadn't really thought about its pronunciation. I always thought of it as Slannah.

Cheers, John D.

Local Novel

Jim, I went to a lot of trouble to disguise all the local worthies. Seriously, it's pure fiction. You'll recognise places and streets, even though the names have been changed, but there are no characters who are based on real people. Anyhow, with the time-frame, anybody would have to have been your ...

Introduction

Hello, I'm John Donnelly from Stevenston. My father had the newsagents and sweetshop in the Boglemart. I went to St John's and St Michael's and left the towns when I was 19. I lived in England for years then met a Dutch girl, married her and have been living here in Holland for the last 32 years. Ha...
