Re: The Commando's Green Beret and Ardrossan
Hi, I think the factory you remember is Glen Husky which was in factory place, this was a knitwear factory which from memory produced sweaters with leather/suede patches. The biggest knitwear factories in ayrshire were in Irvine, Not sure if any exist now, I bought some machines from a company in Ir...

Re: The Commando's Green Beret and Ardrossan
That is very interesting, the main factories producing berets in ayrshire were situated in Stewarton, I have more than a historical interest in berets as my company Is the current main supplier to the MoD for Berets we supply over 30 different designs covering all British Regiments.

Hi all,
I remember the wee man always doubled up with his big sack of ginger bottles, we knew him as the stevenson dummy.
I lived in canal street just up from marios shop, during the 60s/70s i never thought he lived in canal street?
Neil

Re: Saltcoats Full-On Weekend Roll-Call
Hi all, I was born and bred in saltcoats, our family lived in canal street, I left to work in england 25 years ago, my parents were Bill and Margaret Hawthorn who have both passed away. I still make a annual trip to saltcoats to catch up with friends and stock up the usual grocery items. Neil
