Re: Love Family Stevenston

After I left the Academy in 1955, I met Sadie Love in Saltcoats one day and had a long chat with her. She was as nice as pie. Another one whose bark was worse than her bite.

Re: Ardrossan shipyard employees

Althought not an actual shipworker, I did work for the Harbour Compnay as a Dock Gate man during my summer holidays from school in 1955. I worked with Captain Brock and Harry McCracken. Anyone remember them?

Thank you Meg Gordon
The Swan Pub on Bayswater Road is my Local as I live in a flat right behind it. What a coincidence. There is a paque on the wall depicting a short history of the place for the tourists.

Re: When was the last time you went to the movies?

The last time I went to the 'pictures' as I call it, was when I took my sister to see the latest Harry Potter film in Saltcoats about two years ago. Like others, I found the sound far too loud and very off putting. I now enjoy my Sky Box and get more enjoyment watching a film in the comfort of my ow...

Dame Joan Sutherlerland dies

Sorry to hear of the death of the great Australian Soprano,Joan Sutherlerland. I worked with her many times in my career. She was the best and a very down to earth person. No airs and grace, I met her last at a reunion at the Royal Opera House,Covent Garden last year. She was very frail but still smi...

Nice picture. Hasn't changed much. Who is the ghostly woman in the background? Very spooky.

Re: On the Waverley

I went on the Waverley two weeks ago on the Ailsa Craig cruise with my family and a friend I had brought up from London. I can't believe I was on it 60 years ago when it was first built. It is pat of my child hood

Re: Jazz in the fifties

Thank you Mike Mccann for naming the band. I remember dancing to the Clyde Valley Stompers at the Craigs in Ardrossan The pianist had a lovey tenor voice and used to sing opera at the bands break. As opera was also my scene I killed two birdswith with stone so to speak on those nightds. Mary McGowan...

Re: Threetowns schoolboy during the war

Sorry Sam
I don't know where it was launched at the time. I was only about 7 years of age and I didn't think to ask it.
Cheers
David.
