Re: Michael Boyle an Ardrossan Docker
Michael's marriage certificate and census returns state his occupation as Dock worker so I always thought Docker, never gave it a second thought but most likely he was a shipyard worker. Ta Penny. Have e- mailed Clydeport and await reply (if it ever comes)searched Clydeport site but could not find a...

Re: Michael Boyle an Ardrossan Docker
Thanks for your replies Caroline/Meg, I am registered with Ayrshire Roots and have searched poor relief with no results. Was unaware that the North Ayrshire Council family history section would do a search on your behalf so will keep in mind. There must be records somewhere about dockers re: service...

Michael Boyle an Ardrossan Shipyard worker
Been researching family tree for about ten years now and on my paternal side my great grandfather was Michael Boyle who was born in 1872 at Carlingford Co Louth Ireland. Michael moved to Ardrossan aged about 15 and started working in the harbour which was his place of work all his life, the family s...

Re: Threetowners who have played at the world cup
Your reply Penny then gets me thinking if any one else associated with the threetowns represented any other nation at the world cup. The obvious nations that spring to mind are Australia & New Zealand.

Threetowners who have played at the world cup
An old work colleague of mine asked me to research his family tree and i found that one of his ancestors Andrew Auld from Stevenston represented America in the first ever world cup in 1930. Andrew was inaguarated into to the US soccer hall of fame (a link is included below) not bad for a local guy. ...

Re: Toilets in Glasgow Street Ardrossan
Agree the photo does suggest that the door was there before gardens, i remember in the early 70's that the building was a toilet and many more threetowners will remember it being so long before the early 70's, but why a door and why a chimney? what was it initially? surely not a toilet?

Re: Some Ardrossan Academy teachers in 1973
I remember one of the first lessons I received at the academy in 1978 was maths, the teacher had glasses and a grey moustache and beard, and was called Mr Thewliss. I remember thinking at the end of the lesson what was that about! Could the Teacher 7th from the left me Mr Thewliss?

Toilets in Glasgow Street Ardrossan
I was at the remembrance day parade in Ardrossan on Sunday and noticed that the toilets next to the garden of remembrance had a doorway to the garden which had been bricked of. This got me thinking, was the garden of remembrance and the toilets commissioned at the same time?, and was the little room...
