Re: Stevenston gassworks.
John Thompson(jock Tampson) lived next door to us at Gasworks Close
They moved to Moore Park Road East later on. We used to go down and visit them. Nice people.

Re: Stevenston gassworks.
Love this post, I'd totally forgotten about it.
I was born at 2 Gasworks Close. Behind Harry donnellys and across from the smiddies. I too used to play at the gas storage units. There wS a ridge which collected water and we used to pretend that there was fish in it, smelly. Happy days !

There was also a blacksmith(smiddy) in the close, my granda worked there for a while. I remember mum telli...

the smiddy
Does anyone have a photo of Gaswork Close where the Smiddy was, behind Harry Donnelly's sweetie shop. I was born in gaswork close with two brothers in a wee room and kitchen. Had to have a bath in the tub in the wash house, outside. Used to play at the gasworks beside the huge storage tanks. My gran...

Re: PUB IN QUAY STREET SALTCOATS
It was definitely the Dardanelles because my mum told me she was a barmaid in it when she was 18, 1937.
I remember it vaguely.
