Re: shop in Saltcoats
Malcolm Campbells was where Greggs is.The fruit shop by the name of Campbells was in Hamilton St.I can remember the boys from that family going to St Mary's. I remember Malcolm Campbells being to the right of where Greggs currently is, right next door, immediately opposite Woolworths. Ardrossan.

Re: North Ayrshire Council
Does it mean , i can't get a better service for my council tax , because a certain portion of taxpayers money goes to the council pension pot .If they cut the percentage going to the pensions ,and put it into NHS ,Education ,Emergency services ,would i not be getting better value for my council tax...

Re: The Winton Rovers
Ardrossan, The memory is a funny old thing, although yours is clearly better than mine. It was season 1983-84 they last did it, beating Fraserburgh United, Dundee North End, St. Anthony's and Bellshill before succumbing to Darvel. They also did it in seasons 1976-77, and 79-80. The season they got ...

Re: The Winton Rovers
If my memory serves me correctly they got to the 5th round in 1984-85 or 1985-86 and were knocked out away to Darvel Juniors 0-2. They beat Bellshill Juniors 2-1 in the previous round at a very busy Winton Park, the winning goal being an O.G. deflected into the net from a cross by a Winton player, p...

Re: Can Anyone Help?
I was wondering if any of the members of the forum would have any pictures of Ardrossan to the north of the High Road or more specifically, north of Stanley Road. It's been over four years since you made this request, Ardrossan, but if you still want to see some photos north of Stanley Road, you ca...

Re: Stanley group at Miss Glass' retirement, 1972
And on the subject of her educational approach, there's an intriguing mention that after looking very thoroughly into the matter, she had decided to recommend the adoption of the Initial Teaching Alphabet scheme for learning to read at Stanley. Susan Oh Susan - we have a whole generation of 38/39 y...

Re: Commemorative statues
Ardrossan I am a little upset by your lazy stereotyping comment. Here in Australia we have had a couple of the major capital city war memorials severely vandalised , here in Adelaide at least once by Women Against War but the minor town ones are sometimes subjected to vandalism of various kinds. An...

Re: Commemorative statues
The war memorial in Stevenston's obviously not a statue, but this topic got me wondering what the young folk think of these things? Do they pass them by without a thought? Depends on whether or not they have a spray can in their hand unfortunately. Wee Ali That's just lazy stereotyping, typical of ...

Re: Montgomerie Crescent seafront view ; before and after
Hi Susan, I couldn't say for definate when the shelter disappeared but I can confirm that it was still in situ in 1992. After that I can't really remember as I had no reason to take particular notice of it after that date.

Re: Those two tankers/boats off the 3 towns coast
Ardrossan, your post is now sorted, but can I ask, why did you select " Thick as a Brick " for your avatar. If you are into Jethro Tull why not "Aqualung" fantastic album or " House of The Holy". ? I just really like the album. I first heard it during my formative year...
