Re: Steak Pie

I make my steak pie with diced beef, an onion, a few chopped mushrooms, gravy mix, a teaspoon of Worcestershire Sauce, H.P. Sauce & Tomato sauce, a pinch of ground mace and a few drops of Parisian essence to darken the gravy, plus salt & pepper to taste. I also use bought sheets of puff past...

Re: Wildlife in Stevenston

What a lovely story and photos of the buzzard. I was just thinking about the garden of my home in Glencairn Street, Stevenston in the 1950's. I live in Australia and the older I become the more I yearn for the simple things I took for granted as a child. My father worked for ICI but he was a keen ga...

Re: Changes in Ardrossan in Recent Years

Dear Glenshena, Thank you for letting me know bout Lorna Coleman. I appreciate your post. How terribly, terribly sad. What an absolute tragedy. You imagine that people have led charmed lives and then learn about such loss. I am truly saddened. Sometimes we become so involved in our own lives that yo...

Re: Changes in Ardrossan in Recent Years

Re: Ingledene Hotel I went to Langside College and studied Catering and Hotelkeeping with Lorna Coleman from 1967 to 1969. I remember Mrs. Coleman and her wee dogs in the front lounge. It used to be THE place to go to on a Saturday night. One of the wee dogs got trampled on and was killed and I was ...

Re: ALEXANDER SMITH of Saltcoats (ex-RAF)

Dear Meg, You sound a really happy , lovely person. I just LOVED Ardrossan Academy. I had been bullied something shocking at Stevenston High School and I was so happy and proud to go to Adrossan Academy but when I look back I realise how obnoxious I was (and still can be!). My mother was a Scottish ...

Yes, Ad Astra (To The Stars) was the motto of Ardrossan Academy.

Re: ALEXANDER SMITH of Saltcoats (ex-RAF)

Latin was my worst subject at school and I had to look it up but it means "Through Adversity To The Skies" and it is used by the RAF, RAAF etc. A fitting tribute to a brave man. I thought I knew everything when I left college but I now know that I knew three parts of nothing!! Life experie...

Re: ALEXANDER SMITH of Saltcoats (ex-RAF)

I have thoroughly enjoyed the comments. Well done Meg for thinking to bring the dogs to school! I have had a good chuckle out of that. Bobnetau, what fun, like you I couldn't draw to save my life! I can't ever remember being taught by Kay but it is so lovely to have those memories. I do remember Kay...

Re: ALEXANDER SMITH of Saltcoats (ex-RAF)

Yes, that was Kay (Catherine) Smith. She had a boxer dog and it was just a lovely big gentle pup. After it died Kay bought Teko and I think he came to an untimely end under the wheels of a vehicle on the High Road, out the front of their house! I don't remember feeling much sadness at this event as ...

Re: ALEXANDER SMITH of Saltcoats (ex-RAF)

Alex Smith was my second cousin. His mother was Martha (McCallum) and Martha was the cousin of my adopted mother,Grace Dickie (nee Carruthers). I remember going to dinner at Alex & Kays house but I was very young. I remember a kindly quiet man who said very little as I am sure, looking back,that...

Re: Burial versus cremation

I had a laugh recently when I was taken to hospital by ambulance and I was waiting to see the emergency doctor when my mobile rang. It was a call from, let's call him "Clem from the Cem." He told me that he had received a cheque from me and he wanted to know about my "pre-need arrange...
