Re: Andy Auld - Stevenston Footballer (Documentary)

Andy Auld's story is a great one and it is presented in a well put together video from Aidan. By the way, Bill Auld, one of Andy’s brothers, was one of the construction workers who built the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Saltcoats Victoria - Struthers

In 1965 Saltcoats Victoria had a player called Struthers who was capped for Junior Scotland. Does anyone know his first name?

Re: One for the Winton Rovers historians

George, I've been a frequent visitor to the Heritage Centre over the last couple of years and am looking forward to it re-opening. I didn't realize the staff were still working in there. I've already checked the Irvine Herald and A&S Herald for the appropriate year, but they only give the scores...

Re: Saltcoats Victoria?

I'm wondering whether this was at the Rec. The photo was taken looking across the centre line. That means you would have either seen the stand or the enclosure. Is it possible it was played before the enclosure was built? The trees at the back fit the time frame. I though about Ardchoile, but he ea...

Re: Saltcoats Victoria?

It took a couple of years, but I now have the details I was looking for. My suggestion that the game was played at Recreation Park was correct. The teams were Irvine Meadow XI and Craigmark Burntonians and the photo was taken at the Western League Championship Decider in 1950-51.

One for the Winton Rovers historians

In season 1957-58 Winton Rovers played Irvine Meadow XI twice in May, winning both matches. 14 May 1958 Rovers won 5-2 in the Vernon Trophy at Meadow Park. 30 May 1958 Rovers won 3-1 in the Western League at Winton Park. Can anyone tell me the goal scorers (Winton's and Meadow's) from both these mat...

Books on junior football

I've been wondering which junior clubs in North Ayrshire have had histories published. I know Kilwinning Rangers have had three books and both Irvine clubs have had histories written. And there is Drew Cochrane's "The Story of Ayrshire Junior Football." But is there anything else out there?

Re: Winton Rovers

Considering that Glenafton reached the Scottish Cup final last season and that they are a premier league cub, it was a tremendous result for the Rovers.

Re: Saltcoats Victoria?

I'm pretty sure the photo is earlier than that, Scott. I would say it's from the 1950s. In fact, judging from the collar on the Meadow jersey, it would have to be the early 1950s.
