Re: Nelson's Tower - Saltcoats

One of the flags taken on board the "St. Joseph" in the battle of St. Vincent was displayed from the flagstaff under the British flag, with a discharge of guns at the dedication. William Dunlop, Gunner's Mate from Saltcoats, was on board the St. Joseph at that battle. The model of the French frigat...

Re: Oatcakes

Re: Coronavirus pandemic

Re: 26 Montgomerie Street, Ardrossan1867

Ann, I found a photo from 1975 showing the demolition of old houses in Montgomerie Street. I presume these were the original ones from the 1800s.
It's photo number 32:

Re: Coronavirus pandemic

Today for the first time we had no new cases in the region I live in, and it's day 9 or 10 without a recorded death due to covid19. :D As of last week we have some new rules. All shops can open again, but there are certain rules still to be observed. Same for restaurants, pubs, fitness clubs etc. Da...

Re: 26 Montgomerie Street, Ardrossan1867

Hi Ann, This was a description of Montgomerie St. in 1855: ".....having one row of houses on the east side which are mostly occupied during the summer season by visitors to the coast." By 1867, according to Slater's, the residents were mainly gentry, a church minister, a school, and some businesses....
