Re: Ardoch Crescent - Split from: Stevenston Point

Right enough June though I think Marion wasn't Catholic, I don't know if this helps or hinders! They were good neighbours, Marion was a die hard Elvis fan! Did Bill's sis not move down the street? The names will come to me. probably 2 am! Morag, do you mean Tom's sister? If so, yes, down at the bot...

Just to let those from Stevenston know, there is a Facebook page called "Stevenston Ayrshire - Then and Now" if you want to google it. Nothing as grand as this site :)

Re: " A Saunter roon Stinstin"

Isn't that the gateway to the rec - the shortcut to new street and Moorpark Rd. West? circa 1960?
I certainly looks like the entraceway the way it was in the earlyb sixties. There was a gas station across from it, and across from that, a small grocery store, which later became a video rental store..

Re: 3 ARDROSSAN ROAD, SALTCOATS

Hi Meg,

That was actually my business email and was on the web everywhere, so I wasn't worried. I have now changed to another email adress, also business, so I don't mind anyone knowing it. Besides, my husband is ex military and visits the pistol range weekly. :)

Re: Ardoch Crescent - Split from: Stevenston Point

Hi Morag, Tom McGuire (myn uncle) was a Catholic, but big Marion (my aunt) was not. However, they brought the children (my cousins) up as Catholics and they went to Catholic Church and School at St. John's. What, if any, religious organization the family attended after that is not clear to me. Do yo...

Re: coo-rooden

Boddydarg is right, New St. used to be called coo rodden, coo - cow, and rodden - road. I found this doing research on stevenston's history. There was a burn or stream near where thr cross is now, and people watered their animals there and allowed them to graze. Used to be, familes had a cow or chic...

And aI knew someone who called Drambuie 'sugar ally watter' Hi Morag, the name is Glycyrrhiza glabra. It is easy to grow in full sun here in the Ottawa valley. It ...

Re: " A Saunter roon Stinstin"

I don't really remember anything on the railway side of the road. On the other side there was a side street about halfway along where you could get the liquorice root for a ha'penny, I remember walking to St. John'sschool from Morrison Ave with my cousin Billy and he stopped into that shop ...

Re: St. John's - class of 1948

Re: June McBride June might have been a year younger; - not sure. I think she is a Threetowner too. Hi John, I am indeed a three towner, but I wasn't born until 1954 :) I entered St. John's in 1959 in Miss Reid's Class and left in 1963 in Miss Rose Traynor's class. I have no class photos for those t...

Re: St John's 1963

Hi There,

Grace Barr was in primary one with me, but in 1963, we were in Miss Rose Traynor's class (primary 6) I left in October 1963 from that class to go to Canada. Maybe the photo was taken later on in 1963 after I left...Tommy Murphy was also in my class through the years.
