Jim, John Bone has got back to me and advised me that that email address (or with .au) isn't reachable. It's also not the one linked to your account here. So I'll alert you to that via PM just in case you haven't ticked the box to be Notified when a reply is posted to this topic.

Thanks Penny Tray, I was aware of his passing.

Rodger, extremely good to hear from you. In the very near future, I will send you a PM. Please be on the look-out. However, I believe you may be required to register. Alternatively, my home e-Mail address is:
bucephalus49ATbigpond.com - replace AT with the usual.
Sincerest regards
Jim

Hi Jim,
I have just found this website and regret if I am too late to be of use.
My mother was the daughter of Captain William McCreadie and the aunt of Barry McManus.
Barry attended my mother's eightieth birthday celebration. Unfortunately we haven't heard from him since.
His brother Joel was an Art teacher on Islay and was unfortunately killed in a car accident.
I have my grandfathers medals including his OBE. I also have the binoculars with the German inscription presented for his bravery.
Please advise if you would like additional information.
Regards,
Rodger Pirnie

Thanks netta, I believe it was the elder McManus' brother (a teacher) who relocated (I do know which island but am not sitting at my research) where he died in a car crash I believe. I phoned Mr McManus but he was less than cordial, so I left it at that.

Thanks again anyway.

Jim, came across this topic while looking for someone else. Did you ever find Barry McManus. I have a vague recollection of being told that he moved to an island , not sure which one, but Jura rings a bell.

Meg

Thanks for that information. Barry has another son; Jason. You have given me a date circa of Jordan's birth. Thanks again.

Barry's father was an ex SNP provost of Ardrossan, and his son is Jordan MacManus - who is about my son's age (they were at school together) ie 33/34. An extra name that might help the search.

HOpe you find him.

Regards
Meg
ps - maybe try friendsreunited - searching the Ardrossan schools for late forties/early fifties entries.

Many thanks for that excellent advice Irene. I had found Ardrossan Monumental Works on the web and have been trying to contact Barry. Keep getting BT Answer service. Western Australia is 7 hours ahead of you.

Thanks again, never thought to use a web-based phone book in my genealogy search.

Aye Netta, that would be him. I was told he was a "monumental stonemason".
Many thanks. I'll see if I can find a web site for the business - you never know you're luck!

Jim, there was a Barry McMAnus used to live in Glasgow Street. When we were home in 1979 he had a stonemasons business in Princes Street.
Don't know if he would still be in business as he would now be about 60.
Hope this is some help. Netta
