The 1966 photograph in the following link gives a good idea of the nature of the street: -

Ann, I found a photo from 1975 showing the demolition of old houses in Montgomerie Street. I presume these were the original ones from the 1800s.
It's photo number 32:

Hi Ann,
This was a description of Montgomerie St. in 1855:
".....having one row of houses on the east side which are mostly occupied during the summer season by visitors to the coast."

By 1867, according to Slater's, the residents were mainly gentry, a church minister, a school, and some businesses.
The entry for No. 26 at the time was "Fullarton, the Misses".

26 Montgomerie Street, Ardrossan1867

Hi I have been researching my family tree and found a relative who had lived in Arran up until their late 70's and their death certificate states they died at 26 Montgomerie Street, Ardrossan in 1867 (I know they were still in Arran living with family in 1861).

I was just wondering firstly if anyone knows anything about the history of Montgomerie Street at the time?

If anyone has any pictures on Montgomerie Street, Ardrossan around 1867?

Also if anyone knows if it was common for islanders to relocate to the mainland in later life?

Many thanks in advance :D
