Hi Meg ,our plain bread is much bigger than the wee Scottish plain loaves. We can get them sliced and unsliced. For a while I used to buy the wee Scottish ones here ,but haven't bothered lately. Milda

This topic came back to mind today when I thought, "I've got them", one 'filling', whilst many may have enjoyed it, no one thought of. Alas, the late, great David Young got it early on -

BEETROOT!

Any modern ingredients us 'oldies' could try - or are pieces a thing of the past?
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

If I'm making a piece it has to be made with multi-grain bread. Prefer tuna and cheese as the filling or tomato and cheese. I seek out egg and lettuce if I'm at a function. :puter

A new fad is fish finger or pulled pork sandwiches down here in England dont know if that could qualify as a piece though. Morag you mention lard or dripping pieces i have heard that often in the past cant remember if it was just in England though.

Pulled pork is popular here or and kind of bbq meat. Don't remember the dripping pieces in Scotland and being rather aghast when served it by one of my English aunts..suppose the closest we got was fried bread with a wee bit bacon or fried eggin it? Think I mentioned before some girls bringing a piece and crisps for lunch...still can't imagine that!
