Wineries

Post by Hughie »

Here's one of our local wineries "Scotchman's Hill" it's just about a mile away. We had a guided tour through it with our Probus club not long ago while they were labelling the bottles for Emirate Airlines. We have wineries all around us and we like a nice Shiraz though I prefer a cold beer mostly.

Do they export the wine Hughie? I don't recall seeing it in any of the shops here.

I love a nice Shiraz too :D

I never heard that before, Hughie. Should I have...or is it an Oz expression? And what's its origin?

History
Scotchmans Hill was established in 1982 by current owners, David and Vivienne Browne, in one of the most beautiful landform settings in Australia, the Bellarine Peninsula. The Bellarine Peninsula is named after its original local aboriginal tribe Balla Wein. Scotchmans Hill is located on Mount Bellarine which was named by the Scottish immigrants who settled the Mount Bellarine area in the 1840’s. Mount Bellarine was formed over 30 million years ago by tectonic movement which formed Port Phillip Bay and the surrounding volcanic region of Geelong and Mount Bellarine.
See that! I just learned something new.

Thanks, Hughie, I'll have to look out for their label when I shop for wine for the holidays.

It's an off-shoot of Rotary and is world wide. This should be the right URL

PROBUS - WHAT IS IT?
A Probus club is a local association of retired and semi-retired professional and business people - or others who have had some measure of responsibility in any field of worthy endeavour - who are of good character and respected in their communities. They meet regularly for fellowship and an extension of their interests. The name is an amalgam of the abbreviation of the words professional and business. Probus is also a Latin word meaning honest and virtuous, from which the English word "probity" is derived.

Hi, Hugh. As you know we were down your way on Sunday with Jean and Harry, Should have taken them to Scotchman's Hill but I think Harry was happy enough with his Kilkenny at the Grand at Portarlington. We had a lovely lunch there.
Jean and Harry will now be in Tassie with our friends, Sally and George.
Jean is a little fount of knowledge when you need to know anything about Genealogy.

Hi Netta,

Sorry we missed Jean and Harry. As you now know we were out of town for a few days babysitting. Let us know when they all come back to the mainland.
