Hi James,

Are you related to Patrick Tomelty from Ardrossan? In our early years in Australia Patrick and family lived close to us and we were always at each other's houses. I sent Patrick a snail mail a few years ago informing him about the threetowners group - at that time he was pretty involved in church and union matters. The last I saw him was at his eldest son's wedding, that was a few years ago - they lived in Sunshine a suburb of Melbourne. I think Patrick served his time at Rosyth Naval Dockyard as an electician before coming to Australia with his wife Betty who came from Glasgow.

Are you related to Hester Tomelty I used to stay next door to her in Firthview Terrace in Ardrossan. She used to stay with her father who was blind I cant remember his first name it may have been Patrick .................in my day we used to call the neighbours Mr and Mrs not by their first names ........so thats my excuse and not that my memory is going ..........hehehe

Welcome to the group

JAMES, Look at the school photos on 3towners. Central School 1940-41. There are 2 Tomeltys in that pic, a class or so above mine.

I was at the Central 1935-1942. I'm pretty sure there was a Tomelty in my class. I remember Ishbel McCarroll, Philomena Welsh, Bridie McGinn, James Cochrane, Patrick O,Hare, Billy Kelly, an evacuee name of Donachie.

Baby class teacher was Miss Baillie, then Miss McKay, the 2 Miss Coogans, Miss Grant, then Mr, O' Neill. Not sure who came next. Dan Scullion was the headmaster and Tom McGrath taught music.

Happy memories, Margaret Hughes.[/i]
