What connection does Archibald have to the three towns Isabella? This might help in your search.

Hi Meg
I have been reading some of your posts. I have been researching my Finney/Phinney family here in North America. One branch has led me to Ireland and Scotland. I believe this branch may be the connection to my 4th great grandmother Isabella. Family stories have her born 1762 in Dublin, Ireland. Her father may be Archibald Finney/Finnie who came from the Scottish lowlands. Archibald supposedly married a Ward from England. I would like to know also if there is any connections of the Finnie family from Scotland with the Finnie family in Londonderry Ireland? The Irish family would include the names James (1694-1742) and Robert (1668-1755). They are both recorded as being from Londonderry, Ireland. Robert owned a shipping fleet and James was a ships captain. The ship "Charming Molly" is associated with them. Somewhere an Archibald fits in. I sure need help connecting the dots. My family is making my head spin. By the way, thank you so much for answering my post.
Have a great day!
Diane

Hi Diane.
Just a thought.
My wife works with the historical records for the city archive.
She often comments that the writing is illegible and that the spelling often changes between generations.
My own family has an example of this. When my maternal grandmother's family came to Scotland from Ireland at the end of the 19th century, Loy became Molloy.
You have provided several versions of Finnie. You might try to broaden your scope of potential spellings.
Findley came to mind, a very common Scots surname.

JD.

Thank you sweet caroline. Other than what I posted, which is one branch of my family, I know other branches, and possibly this one (Scotland & Ireland) originated back to a Jeffery Finney (1532-1586) in Lenton, Nottinghamshire, England who was married to Ellen Smedley (1540-1606). It has been a difficult family to sort out. Thank you for the 2 sites you shared for me to check out. I may get lucky.

Hi Diane, I've merged your last topic to your previous topic from a few days ago concerning the same surname.

Here's a bit of reading for you concerning the Finnie surname : https://www.geni.com/discussions/64206
