Safe Site?

Hi Hughie, just so you know...sometimes when I try to log in to Threetowners A warning comes up telling me the site is not safe and asking me if I'm sure I want to log in. It does not happen all the time just every now and then. I know the site is safe but thought you might like to know that sometimes Yahoo doesn't.....something to look into, maybe?

Could it be because this is an http: site and not a https: site? The later is a secure site.

Spot on, Retsum. I see other forums are in the same boat.

I have to do a wee bit more research on this. But it looks like we need to get a security certificate, so our URL will start with https: rather than http: and the warning will be gone. In the past SSL certificates were mainly for on-line stores where credit card details or personal contact information was past on-line. Google appears to want https: to be the norm in the future.

I’m on holiday at the moment. So will take this up on returning home.

ADDED: Yes in the meantime try https://www.threetowners.net/forum/ :smt102
Looks like we were covered - no one told me.

I was seeing this below at the top left of the main forum index page whenever I accessed Threetowners using google chrome, so I'm glad someone brought this wee issue to light and you folks have got to the bottom of it very quickly.

I realise now that although it says "Not Secure" on the left of the address bar, that doesn't mean the site itself is in any way unsafe to visit. And note my Norton security is actually informing me that it's 'Safe'

I think - as you imply in your post above Hughie - that there would only be a possible security issue with http if we were all supposedly sharing 'confidential' info on here, such as names, addresses, phone numbers, bank details, etc. But as this is mostly a publicly viewable website, right-minded folk won't be doing that anyway. So I suppose that apart from getting rid of those scary warnings etc, there was actually no real pressing need for the site to be made a secure one.

Mind you, as my old link appears to be out of date now, I'll probably delete it then add your new https link to my favourites and start accessing the site using that instead.
