and his physical gestures as funny as hie routines, great memories indeed!John Donnelly wrote:When I worked in London, we had our company Christmas bash with Tommy Cooper as the cabaret.
If you think he was good on TV, you should have seen him at a private party.
The really great thing about him was that there was never any touch of 'blue' in his routine.
The funniest man ever.

Eric Morecambe of Morecambe and Wise was to me the best. John Cleese in Fawlty Towers was also one of my favourites, and yes Tommy Cooper too.
Re: Earliest TV Comedies remembered
Even before TV I remember 'Round the Horn' and the 'Goon Show'. I think the latter made it on to TV but was not as effective. On TV the were our own Francie & Josie and Chick Murray. I remember the One O'clock Gang but they suffered from being on every day - difficult to maintain a standard.
Re: Earliest TV Comedies remembered
I had already left Scotland when Francy and Josie came on the screen but my mother posted me all their videos. Just that no-one here could understand their language except me. I still view them occasionally. I know Jack Milroy passed away, what about Ricky Fulton?.

I know this is aging me but the earliest I remember were Bill and Ben and Sooty. Not Quite a comedy by past standards but loved watching the original cliff-hanger, Flash Gordon..lol
