Some interesting reading can be found here in the official report into the collapse of the Parkhouse railway bridge when Pickfords were transporting a heavy load over it.

Just wondering if your interest in railways came from your grandfather Charlie? I know he was a fireman.

I remember it well. I was 12 years old and had walked up Glasgow street from church, turned past the garage to go up the hill and the bridge had collapsed. It was quite a scene. We had to retreat to the bridge into Barrie terrace and get home that way.
