CORONATION CELEBRATIONS

Apart from a TV show and lunch to 500 old people, there was no official celebration in Saltcoats, but there were many street parties when gifts were distributed to children. A bonfire was lit on The Braes and the bandstand was illuminated.

The Shores Committee recommend that an application for a site for a Royal Marine recruiting van in the town be refused.

The Committee convenor, Police Judge Mrs. R Lambie said that there was a high percentage of unemployment among the youths of the district but all that the Government was offering was a recruiting van.
