Re: BMD & Files - 18 January 2012
Just noticed while visiting someone and reading an old A & S Herald that William Harvey Thomson DSC has died. He seems to have been quite a character in his younger days having won the Distinguished Service Medal. I thought there may have been some mention of him on this site but unless I am searching using the wrong criterea then there is nothing.
I used to see him quite often along South Cresent and he always touched his cap, a beret, when he passed you, a real gentleman.
I believe he flew "Swordfish" aircraft from a sister ship of "HMS Dasher" (whose name I don't remember)
Does anyone have any more information about him?

Meekan....I have his book " The Life of a Swordfish Flier". It is a very good read telling his exploits not just as a flier but as a schoolteacher and explorer in the Antartic. The book is available in Starks in Hamilton St. I had my copy autographed by Mr Thomson. I had it sent to me here in Canada.
