Marie, are you thinking of " Skimpy" Dan Frazer, he had the persona of a sergeant major and a voice to match.

Can't believe I forgot Auld Miz - Mrs Milne who taught French. She also taught my mother who's now in her 80s. Although she was nearly retirement age when she taught me, she certainly hadn't lost her reputation as a bit of a battleaxe.
Also Mrs Hinshelwood - Latin. She too was elderly (at least she seemed so at the time , tho probably was the age I am now). She had a shaky voice and greeted the class every day with "Salvete". Her shaky voice rose as she said it so we would all respond "Salve" in equally shaky voices and shook our bodies as we sat down.
Mrs Stewart was the gym teacher who taught the girls.
Great memories from my time at Stevenston High in the mid 60s

Think Miss Harper was at stevenston higher grade to as a DHT around 1969-1970

I Know when the new Auchenhavie Academy Opened which will be 40 years this month the following staff moved there:

Mr Mason, Mr Armstrong Art (was Mr Armstrong at Higher grade to) ?
Miss Carswell & Mrs Johnstone & Mrs Armstrong - HE
Miss Clarke - French & German
Mr Walker & Mrs Stewart - PE
Mr Mack - Biology & Mr Payne - Physics
Mr Wilson the new head became head at higher grade 1969,
Mr Collins History
Mr Thompson - Technical & Mr Stewart
Mr Proctor & Miss Donaldson - Music

I found out that Miss Ramsey & Miss Kerr arrived at Higher grade in 1970
Mr Strachan in Maths in 1970
Mr Roberston in Geography in 1970,
Mrs Wilson in Learning Support in 1970
Mr Ferguson in art in 1970,
Mr Sherrie in French in 1970

any more

also what primary teacher do we remember as well before glencairn arrived in 1971

Mr Malloy - New Head Teacher

Trying to think of more old higher grade staff that moved to the new academy know any more. this would be around 1971/72

I also remember all these teachers, i had the belt from Mr Armstrong (Art) for being late back from lunch ... though he did give me the choice of 2 of the belt or writing an essay... but only wimps opted for an essay, so 2 of the belt it was! i also had the belt from Dopey Mcdonald for talking in class when i shouldnt ? i still liked him afterwards, he was nice, he had to shut me up somehow ?? bless him, very happy days at Stevenston High, great memories .

his son Lex taught at Ardrossan Academy
lex was at Stevenston for a while, either him or another English teacher,Tall fair haired with glasses,(White???) when on to be deputy head of Ayrshire Education,
Hinchlewood's shaking was caused be a thyroid operation, she had a scar on her neck, clearly visable
Milne , she just hated me, she got me bumped from the class although I passed the exams, the school wouldn't let me drop French, which at the time I had absolutely no interest
Bonner was a great motorcyclist (norton??)

I'll take this opportunity to say, what an inane load of books you had to read , absolute poxy books, Lord of the Flies, Animal Farm and a host more, tie that in with Shakespeare ....none of it stimulated knowledge or thought .......and don't dare question the teacher's analysis
