Police-Judge Howden
Mr B. R. Howden, Kilwinning. was a keen official of Kilwinning Rangers for many years when, after the 1914-18 war, a body of football men met to form a League in Ayrshire. The League was formed and named the Western Junior League, and Mr Howden was appointed secretary. After holding office for some years he retired. His attention was then taken up with burgh affairs.

He was asked to stand for the Council of Kilwinning which he did and was elected. In 1934 when he was senior bailie it was expected he would be appointed Provost, but he withdrew his name. But in 1937 he was appointed Provost of the Abbey Town, and during his term he worked as no other Provost did for the benefit of the town.

Many of his schemes are a credit to Kilwinning, and they will always be a symbol of his enterprise and consideration for the people who place their confidence in him. While he is popular, he is also blunt and to the point at all times. No man had greater courage than Police Judge Howden, for he gave a who was pleased or displeased. Still, we hold that Kilwinning made a fine choice when they allected B. R. Howden to the Council, for he has shown himself to be a go-ahead man above the average.

Prominent People.
T. F. BROWN. Kilwinning can lay claim to many who have become noted not only in their town, but throughout the County. It is some years now since Browns Merrymakers first became prominent as a dance band, and now they are considered the best band in Ayrshire.

Tom F. Brown, the leader, has worked hard for years to bring together musicians worthy of the standard required, and he attained this aim through careful blending and team work. Now Browns Merrymakers are known not only in Ayrshire but in Glasgow where they have appeared on several occasions. and have taken each hall they visit by storm.

For years the Brown family have been to the forefront not only as musicians but also as singers. Mr Tom Brown left Kilwinning many years ago to reside in Ardrossan, but long before leaving Kilwinning he was well-known as a pianist. T. F. has had a long and successful career as a band leader.

Councillor Shore
Since joining the Saltcoats Town Council Mr Shore has proved a very able councillor. The type of man who thinks before he speaks, and certainly does not speak loud to justify his importance.

Although he is of a silent nature, he possesses that confidence which shows he has a grip of all the subjects that are beneficial to the town. His business career should also prove an asset in town planning, for he has a fine knowledge of constructive work.

His cool and collected composure in debate has always brought him attentive ears, for his fellow councillors do listen to what Councillor Shore has to say whether it is for or against them, and that is the secret of a successful councillor.

He may not have the same time to mix among the ratepayers as he would like due to business reasons, but nevertheless he knows their views and has also their confidence. We are prepared to believe that Councillor Shore will, at a future date be called on to act as provost of the town.

Councillor Joe. Clark
Stevenston can claim many prominent men, but Councillor Joe Clark can be termed the best known as he takes part and interest in all the town's affairs and has done so for a. long time. He first became prominent with old Ardeer Thistle Football Club, and no Stevenston man was so keen as Joe. He not only worked hard for the club, but he also dipped his hand into his pocket on many occasions to take the club out of financial difficulties.

Being a business man in the town, he is known by young and old. As a councillor he has done a lot if good work for Stevenston, and his position makes many calls on his valuable time, but even then, he finds time to right many wrongs and gives an attentive ear to all.

But his silent work with the Stevenston British Legion brings praise from his Legion Committee for with this body he does a lot of good that never reaches the ears of the public. In December last be was re-elected chairman of the District Council No. 9 Area which, no doubt, is proof in itself that he has proved worthy of the position.

He is a cheery type of a man and one that likes all to voice their opinion. Everybody in Stevenston knows Joe Clark, and Joe Clark knows everybody in Stevenston.
