A relative, new to genealogy, is attempting to trace a common ancestor (below). The following data is all he holds.
MURRAY Michael, 1861, M, 7, 651/2 19/ 6, New Monkland Landward, Lanark
As I know Michael’s family, my ancestors, lived in Saltcoats (or Old Ardrossan as it then was), I am attempting to determine why Michael was recorded in Lanark. He later married in Glasgow, before returning to Saltcoats.
What I wish to know from the 1861 Census is:
a. In whose household was Michael resident, and
b. What relationship to the householder was noted (eg. Lodger, nephew, grandson, etc).
The complete entry for the household would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks and STAY SAFE!

Re: Lookup Request - 1861 Census
Hi Jim
Here's the information you're looking for:
a & b. Michael was with his widowed mother and siblings.
Here's the full entry:
Janet Murray W (widow), age 42, born Lanark New Monkland
Michael Murray Son, age 7, born Lanark (can't read the town, there's a fold in the paper)
Catherine Murray Daughter, age 5, scholar, born Lanark New Monkland
William Murray Son, age 1 1/2, born Lanark New Monkland
I also found a Michael Murray, age 5, at Stevenston. Maybe he's the one your relative is looking for?
Take care
Irene

Jim, I forgot to add:
Stevenston is the parish. He could well have lived in the Saltcoats part. I didn't look.

Many thanks Irene. It would appear the info we hold is incorrect then. Back to the drawing board.

Re: Lookup Request - 1861 Census
Irene, I believe the Michael Murray we are interested in is the one aged 5 years you found in Saltcoats (Ardrossan/Stevenson).
May I request the full Census entry please?
