billy broon

Post by 5siamese7 »

He taught english and geography at the higher grade and also at Stevenston high. He was a true eccentric but likeable. He spent a lot of his career belting boys but not girls. His belt was so thin that he really had to go out of his way to cause real pain. He had terrible blepheritus and use to pick the matter from his eyelids with a pair of tweezers with the help of a mirror. This usually happened when he was supervision an exam. He thought of himself as a hard man and would try to crush your hand with a hand grip. There was a really dishy lassie from Saltcoats called Doreen Flyn and he called her out one day and she stuck her teeth into his knuckles. Well this biting continued and he sat there not showing any pain demonstrating this idea that he was tough guy. Well when she eventually let go he showed us his hand with the teeth marks clearly visible and said that he was glad that she had regular teeth. Couldn't happen to-day.

This is serious stuff Viv. He had a whisky nose and his face was covered in blotches. He use to hand out copies of the National Geographic Magazine and sit and smile as he slyly watched us seek out pictures that you couldn't find in the Sunday Post. However in my opinion he was a good guy unlike some of them.
