Re: The Melbourne Cafe
Guys I remember from Bikers Corner 47 years ago, hence the paucity of names:
Bruce Bain and his younger brother Ian [?] (Saltcoats)
Bobby Shanks (Ardrossan)
Martin ?? (Kilwinning)
The bikes were the usual mix of Norton's, BSAs and Triumphs but no Japanese machinery. All the guys knew Dennis NELSON very well. Saturday nights were usually a "folk" night at the Hydro cellar.

Re: The Melbourne Cafe
Don't think so Morag - when I worked there 1968 til 1970 there were 6 of us who both worked in the Melbourne and on our days off were corner regulars - Beth Norris, Christine Milne, Jane Shearer, Morag Hamilton, Eleanor and me. The St Michaels crowd always sat in the area called the window - the only name I can remember was Campbell Dixon but there was always around 7 or 8 of them around there.morag wrote:Heck, you may even have waited on me Remember the bikers corner?

I was a frequent visitor to the Melbourne Cafe in late 1960s. You probably don't remember me Meg. I used to play 'A lovers Concerto' by the Toys, over and over and over again on the juke box. it was my favourite song at that time...used to drive some folks mad! LOL!
Be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Re: The Melbourne Cafe
Throughout the 50's we (Jacky Ball, John Rae, Charlie Horne and me) used to meet in the Melbourne on Saturday after the pictures. It always very busy and the hot dogs and coffee were very good. On Sunday, after snooker at Benaldi's we met in the West End where it was quieter to discuss and solve the world's problems. I lost touch with all these guys after University.

Such a pity they don't do the upstairs thing now.
I think I would like to look down on passersby.
