Here in Oz the only liver they eat is sheep's liver, oddly known in the butcher's window as "lambs fry". Served with bacon and a thick gravy it's quiet nice - you find it on many restaurant menus here - all those sheep you know!

Wife used to make it, and now has it on the odd occasion when dinning out. It's said to be a good source of iron, but is high in cholesterol - never mind there's a pill for that.

Can also get chicken liver here in Australia, Hugh. Much lighter than lambs fry.
Bobby was just saying the other day we hadn't had them for a while.

Interesting Hugh when I was out in Oz in 2008 visiting my cousin Jim Martin (you knew his dad Willie) in Tuggarwong he said lets go for breakfast at the golf club and do you know they had lambs' liver on the menu which I enjoyed very much. Back to veal liver I don't think there Is a big sale for it here in Scotland because folk don't like the idea of eating anything to do with a calf.

I was going to mention Chicken livers too, Netta. And crumbed Lambs brains which Betty had the other week while dinning out, I tried them - not for me. Yuk! As I said it's all those sheep.

Yes Bill, I knew Willie Martin who was I think a Stevenston Councillor who once had a shop on the way to the factory. The family migrated to Oz. It's a long time ago but he and his wife stopped over with us back in the late sixties in inner Melbourne with their caravan for a few days.

They were on there way from visiting the Hughey family (who had migrated from Stevenston) in Geelong. From what I recall while we were visiting Jim Hughey in Sydney a few years later we got to meet up with Willie and family, where at that time they were running an orphanage. One of the sons was married to one of the McKenzie girls who I recall living in Castle road in Ardrossan while I was growing up.

That's entirely true Hughie. Jim and his good lady Marie Mckenzie are still with us and he has just turned eighty and is still enjoying his golf.

Just discovered that Bargain Bs in Stevenston have lots of DVDs for only 2 pounds. Out of date stuff but a reasonable selection. Got myself 'Grease' for tomorrow to watch. Haven't seen this in ages!!

Just on ma way back from Killie baths.

Went to hospital to see dad today, but found out he has early stages of Parkinson's. Sad times. Got mum appt to see consultant tomorrow.

Sad the lack of visitors. Only FOUR of us have been, the rest neatly vanished.

So sorry to hear that Viv...while I hate going to, or, more so, being in, hospitals, I make the effort. If I'm the patient I don't want visitors, I'd rather just try and sleep, with all the bells and whistles and God knows what, the staff don't seem to recognise quiet.
