Frank your brother in law is proberly right as there was a cafe I used to go to in the sixties opposet Dr Rankins and the church played juke box and drank Coke all night.

Yes I remember the las Scalia restaurant. I ate chips and had a glass of orange there. That would be around 1958.

I worked in that chip shop when I was fourteen.Spent all my tips in the juke box playing Del Shannon's Runaway.My boss was called Roy and he was a really nice man .

Funny how I can't recall a take away chip shop or even a restaurant there. :roll: It was probably not open on a Sunday night when the Monkey walk was on - or I was too busy eyeing up the sheilas to notice. 8)

John, at that time it would be equidistant between the Melbourne Café and the Regal Cinema - on the other side of the road would have been the church where my sister was married and which is now a furniture shop as mentioned by Frank.

Now I remember. What confused me was the reference to the church. I thought that was the one in Dockhead St. I forgot there was one in Hamilton St. too.

yes i vaugly remember this fish and chip shop, my recollection is it was somewhere
between the regal cinema and what was the gas shop, I think it might now be a Chinese restaurant

lol Hughie after I put my post on signed out and thought about it later, i said to myself hang on a min I wonder if it was an indian restaurant, so it probably is im, seldom up by starks in that street
