Floridian Birds
Took some bird photos in Florida late last year.
I believe they are,
1. Anhinga
2. Willet
3. White Ibis
4. Double-crested Cormorant
5. Laughing Gull
6. Brown Pelican?
7. Great White Egret?

Re: Floridian Birds
Great photos - love watching pelicans flying along skimming the top of the waves.
Re: Floridian Birds
“A wonderful bird is the Pelican.
His beak can hold more than his belly can.
He can hold in his beak
Enough food for a week!
But I'll be darned if I know how the hellican?”

Idiot - seeks village.

Re: Floridian Birds
Chris, we had a teacher at Ardrossan Academy who loved Dixon Merritt, I had forgotten how funny he could be. There was a second version -
A funny old bird is a pelican.
His beak can hold more than his belican.
Food for a week
He can hold in his beak,
But I don't know how the helican.

Great photos! I'm particularly fond of the last one - it's quite an image.

Re: Floridian Birds
It wasn't Floridian, but it was a bird, so hopefully I'm not going to get grief from Meg for going off topic.
I was on the golf course this afternoon and saw a black swan being chased out of one of the ponds by one of our resident cobs. It had white on the underside of its wings and seemed slightly smaller than our native mutes. Any ideas any-one?

Re: Floridian Birds
JD, I’m terrible with foreign birds, but I recognise your description of an Australian 'Black Swan'. They are popular birds to keep in European zoos and other collections. Consequently, escapees are regular. I’ve not seen one for years, but there were regular reports of one this autumn at Irvine Harbour

Re: Floridian Birds
Found this one on my other half's camera.
I think it's a White Ibis.

Re: Floridian Birds
Thanks Iain. I'm wondering whether it will stick around the golfcourse or whether it will be forced to move on.
We've had a very mild winter up till now. I wonder whether that has something to do with my visitor.
There is a commercial bird collection / zoo less than twenty miles away as the crow flies, called Avifauna. It might have come from there.

Very nice pics Steve, and I particularly like the Egret, Pelican and Ibis ones.
Must have been a great holiday!
