I had an HR Holden station wagon years ago with the 161 engine. It was a good economical car for its size - I used to get around 30 to the gallon - once got a genuine 32mpg towing a four wheel trailer full of prewar Standard parts (same as SS1 Jaguar) through the hills but never bee
n able to work out how! It was reliable but rough as bags compared to today's cars. Wee Ali

It would be equally reliable, as it was a simple engine,cast block and cast head,simple ingition and carb not that,
that is a bad thing,no reason for it not to reliable
I suppose that today owner/driver has a more sophisticated taste or bum and requires more creature comforts.
I noted that the original photo is of a modified car
MPG?,Possibly the engine was working within it's most efficient range.Who knows!
