IRVINE DISTRICT ROAD TRUSTEES

A general meeting of the Irvine District Road Trustees was held in the Parochial Board Room yesterday – Mr Archibald Brownlie of Monkcastle in the chair. There was a large attendance of members.

It was recommended that the dispute with Mr Cunninghame of Auchenharvie regarding damages for Capon Craig Quarry should be settled amicably if possible.

It was reported that the Main Street, Stevenston, had now been widened by taking down old properties.

An application for an increase for an improvement on the road near the Free Church, Stevenston, was considered and £6 additional allowed.

The clerk was ordered to insist on the railway bridges at Braehead, Saltcoats, and Parkhouse, Ardrossan, being completed immediately.

The Richard E Evans noted as the runner up Dux at the higher grade was my Uncle. In later life he became
a well known Aneithsitist at Glasgow Infirmary as well his daughter Ruth Evans MD practiced at the clinic in Ardrossan. Unfortunately my Uncle died young (48) from heart trouble as a result of malaria contracted in Kenya during the war where he was with the royal army medical corps.

KESTREL NEST

Kestrel nest July 1973.jpg

Nest site July 1973.jpg

An industrial chimney hardly seems the most likely place to rear a family. But a pair of kestrels decided to do just that at the ICI Nylon Plant in Stevenston. They built their nest 150 feet up on a platform on the chimney ( the arrow marks the spot ) and hatched four healthy chicks which are now being taught to fly and hunt by their parents. Soon they will leave their " room with a view " for the larger world outside.
