THE WRECK OF THE CHUSAN - OTHER THREE BODIES FOUND

On Saturday morning, another of the bodies from the wreck of the CHUSAN was thrown up on the beach near Burnfoot, close by the spot where the other body was found on Thursday.

The remains were those of a coloured seaman, were identified as those of DAVID CUNNINGHAM, ordinary seaman, and were very much decomposed, the head being nearly severed from the body.

The body was interred on Saturday evening in Ardrossan Cemetery.

Yesterday morning, about 11 o’clock, the body of another coloured seaman was washed ashore on the beach opposite Montfod, about two miles from the scene of the wreck. It had only a shirt and a pair of drawers on.

The body was interred about five p.m. in the cemetery, and the funeral was attended by a large number of townspeople.

Shortly after five p.m. another coloured body came ashore behind Montgomerie Pier, close to the lifeboat-house. There was a pair of trousers on the body, which was conveyed to the hospital at the harbour, and will be interred as early as possible today (Monday).

Five bodies have now been found, leaving four unrecovered.

Identification in the last two cases was impossible.

ARDROSSAN – SERIOUS ACCIDENT

About eight o’clock yesterday morning, a man named JOHN HILL, employed as a labourer at the steamer SOUTH-WESTERN, received somewhat severe injuries.

It appears he had been engaged in the hold of the steamer in the work of discharging, and had just sent up four bags of ryegrass seed, weighing about 8 cwt. While watching the upward progress of the bags, the chain by which they were suspended slipped, and the bags fell on Hill’s chest, inflicting severe internal injuries.
