GLASGOW HERALD
16 MARCH 1892

LAUNCH AT ARDROSSAN

Yesterday afternoon there was launched from the yard of the Ardrossan Shipbuilding Company Limited, Ardrossan, the fine screw-steamer TAMBO.

She was built to the order of Messrs Huddart, Parker & Company, Melbourne, is intended for the Australian coasting trade, and has accommodation for 40 first-class and 20 steerage passengers. She is splendidly furnished, the saloon being magnificent.

Her dimensions are 198 feet between perpendiculars, 30 feet beam, and 15 feet 6 inches moulded depth.

She will be furnished with steam-steering gear, steam-windlass, and all the latest and most approved appliances for facilitating the loading and discharging of cargoes. Her carrying capacity is 1000 tons, with a draught of 13 feet 9 inches.

The christening ceremony was gracefully performed by Miss Huddart.

In replying to the toast of “Success to the Tambo,” at the cake and wine banquet which followed the launch, Mr Huddart stated that, having examined the vessel, he was able to say the builders had done her ample justice. She was a strong ship and a well-finished ship, and the problem to him was that, on the dimensions stipulated and with the cargo she was required to carry, she should still present such a splendid appearance.
