FIRE

Shortly after ten o’clock last night fire was discovered to have broken out in the timber yard of Messrs Christie & Company at the Inches, Ardrossan.

For many years huge quantities of railway sleepers have been stored in the yard previous to being conveyed to the firm’s premises on the harbour, and last night there were upwards of 2000 sleepers on hand.

The fire originated in the central pile, and before the discovery was made it had gained a firm hold.

The fire raged for three hours and the damage done was considerable.

It is understood the property is insured.
