NEW STEAMER

The new steamer SNAEFELL, built to the order of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, will commence running today on the service between Ardrossan and the Isle of Man. It is expected she will now be on this service until the end of the season.

The new steamer, which has been built by Messrs Cammell, Laird & Company, Birkenhead, is much larger and faster than the TYNWALD, which has been on the same route for the last few years.

REGATTA – ARDROSSAN AND SALTCOATS

The first of what promises to be an annual regatta came off on Saturday in the bay between Ardrossan and Saltcoats.

The weather was admirably suited to the occasion, especially for the sailing races – a nice moderate breeze blowing from the west.

The races were announced to start at 12 o’clock, and at that hour large crowds of spectators lined the shore, though the distance at which the races took place must have precluded people from seeing much of them,

The Kilwinning Brass Band were accommodated on board the tug DEFENCE, which was moored a short distance from the commodore’s barge, and played an appropriate selection of tunes.

Robert,

The article referring to Helen Margaret Black is as it appears in the newspaper. The Ayrshire Directory of 1937 however, shows that AUCHENDHU was a residence in Eglinton Road, Ardrossan, occupied at that time by David and Mathew Black. The menfolk are described as 'wool combers'.

Thanks PT seems in those days numerous houses had names rather than numbers. My grandfather named his house on the High road "Forannie"

Robert Cook
I remember your grandfather's bungalow on High Road. I believe his wife's name was Annie.
