MUNICIPAL MEETING – SALTCOATS

Provost McIsaac presiding.

A report was read from the Finance Committee which has been considering the duties and emoluments of the burgh officials, and they recommended the following changes: -

Town Clerk’s salary to be increased from £50 to £70; treasurer and burgh factor to be increased from £15 to £25; and Keeper of the Townhouse increased from £25 to £33.

The salaries of the other officials to remain as at present.

The report was unanimously agreed to.

On the motion of Mr. Kerr, it was agreed that any person lifting sand from the shore at Montgomerie Crescent be charged 5s per cart.

A discussion took place as to the opening up of streets by Irvine Corporation for repairing water pipes without getting the sanction of the Commissioners. It was stated that they had no power to do this, and that the streets were left in an unsatisfactory state. The clerk was instructed to write Irvine Corporation that they must not open the streets again without permission of the Commissioners.
