AT THE CINEMAS

REGAL

Monday 10th April ALL WEEK

Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau , Michael Crawford and Louis Armstrong in Hello Dolly ( U ) 7.25 pm

Saturday matinee 1.45 pm

Family entertainment fills the screen all week when " Hello Dolly " is featured. Barbra Streisand stars as Dolly - the matchmaker in a small town, who sets about coupling together all the local young lads and lasses. But during her work she becomes entangled with Walter Matthau and the matchmaker finds herself matched. A first-rate musical filled with many memorable songs , the film illustrates Barbra Streisand's talent as a comedienne.

LA SCALA

Sunday 9th April at 7 pm

Mabel Karr and Howard Vernon in Diabolical Doctor Z ( X )

Also Francis Lederer and Greta Thyssen in Terror is a Man ( X )

Monday 10th April ALL WEEK

Reg Varney and Doris Hare in On the Buses ( A ) 6.15 pm and 8.35 pm

Also Top of the Bill ( U ) 7.48 pm

Fans of the television series will no doubt enjoy the big screen version of " On the Buses " ( all week ). The film features all the stars of the television series and again centres around the cat and mouse rivalry between Stan the bus driver ( Reg Varney ) and Inspector Blake ( Stephen Lewis ).

COUNTESS

Monday 10th April

Elvis Presley and Ina Balin in Charro ( U ) showing 8.15 pm

Also The Only way out is Dead showing 6.45 pm

Thursday 13th April Continuous from 5.30 pm

Elvis Presley in Easy Come, Easy Go ( U )

Excitement ! Adventure under the Sea !

Also Red Tomahawk

Two very different Elvis Presley films form an interesting bill. From Monday to Wednesday Elvis stars in " Charro ", a film made some time ago but only recently released. In this film El departs from his normal sugary roles to play a hard-bitten, unshaven cowboy in this western drama. It's back to the more usual song every 15 minutes routine in " Easy Come, Easy Go " which is screened for the rest of the week. This film lacks the substance of " Charro " but El's fans will be happy to hear their old favourites sung again.

SALTCOATS FREE CHURCH

The annual congregational soiree was held in the church on Wednesday night – Rev. D. Scott in the chair.

The annual reports which were read were highly satisfactory, and showed that during the past year there had been 44 baptisms, 32 accessions to the congregation, and there had been raised for all purposes £432 13s 2d.

This congregation has raised since the Disruption for the Sustentation Fund £4033, and for all objects £13,055.

The meeting was rendered both instructive and interesting by addresses from Rev. J. Stewart and others, and the excellent singing of several pieces of music by the church choir.
