SALTCOATS – NEW TOWN HALL
Some time ago, in answer to an invitation, 17 designs were sent in by architects for the proposed new Town Hall. After long and careful consideration, the Commissioners were not satisfied with any one of the plans, and appointed a committee to endeavour to put into shape the views expressed in consultation.
The committee prepared a pencil sketch of the hall in accordance with the views expressed by the commissioners. This sketch has been approved of, subject to such alterations as might appear advisable afterwards.
The Commissioners agreed to invite architects who had sent in plans to state on what terms they would be willing to prepare complete plans for the new hall, taking the pencil sketch as a basis.

GLASGOW HERALD
28 JANUARY 1896
Dear Sir,
ARDROSSAN, SALTCOATS, STEVENSTON, AND KILWINNING MORNING TRAINS
As a resident and daily traveller in the above district, I would draw the attention of the Glasgow & South-Western Railway Company to a great disadvantage and inconvenience we are under in not having a connecting train with the 7.10 a.m. express Ayr to Glasgow.
Anyone desirous of getting into Lanarkshire or Edinburgh districts must travel with the 6.15 a.m. Ardrossan Tortoise to connect with the many trains leaving Central and Queen Street between 8.30 and 9.20, while at a very little extra expense this drawback to our rising neighbourhood could be put right – I have no doubt to the advantage of the railway company financially.
Trusting the South-Western Company, which is always alive to its own interests, will have this reform and chronicled shortly.
I am &c.,
