14th FEBRUARY 1975

ST ANDREW'S ACADEMY

It was a successful week on the sporting front for the Academy. Of all the matches played only the rugby teams and the girls' under-15 volleyball team were defeated.

In the quarter-final of the Scottish tournament the boys' under-16 basketball team defeated Broughton Secondary of Edinburgh 81-37.

The football teams put on the most impressive performance. In the four games played, eighteen goals were scored and only three lost. In a North Ayrshire Cup match the under-16 team defeated Ravenspark Academy 5-3 , scorers being McQueen, Aitken ( 3 ) and Milligan. The under-15 team played two league matches during the week , beating St Michael's Academy 6-0 and Ardrossan Academy 3-0. In the games Conway and Thomson scored three goals, Taggart 2 and Cunninghame 1.

In an under-14 league match St Andrew's defeated Auchenharvie Academy 4-0. The scorers in this match were Morris ( 2 ), Reid and Forbes.

The under-15 girls' volleyball team was defeated by two sets to one by Ardrossan Academy. In rugby matches against Auchenharvie Academy the 1st year team lost 12-4 and the 3rd/4th year combined team lost 40-26.

St Andrew's representative in the Scottish under-15 basketball team, Michael Diamond, had an excellent match when the national side played England at Sunderland last week.

Despite being dwarfed by his six feet five opponent Michael, who is six feet tall himself, was the mastermind of many of his side's raids but in the end his efforts were unrewarded and Scotland were defeated 75-43.
