EVENING TIMES
26 JULY 1967
BY HORSE
Folk singer Watt Nicol and his wife caused a stir at the Saltcoats Folk Club when they turned up for a date on horse-back.
Explained Watt – “We intended to borrow my father’s car at Johnstone for the journey. It was not available, so he offered us two of his horses from his stable. It is a 20-mile journey to Saltcoats, and the horses took two-and-a- half hours.
Watt, a keen animal lover, who is in fact a Fellow of the Zoological Society, did not subject the horses to the return journey but had them picked up by horse box.

The Emergency Committee of the Scottish Junior Association last night decided that the Ayrshire Junior league had no claim to either Saltcoats Victoria or Dreghorn Juniors as members.
In the case of Ardeer Recreation, it was agreed that they had a just claim, but the League representative was asked to prevail upon his committee to withdraw that claim and allow the Ardeer Club to participate in the Scottish Junior League, which body they joined on June 29, and have signed all agreements.
