They have loads and the thing is books are becoming less popular. Best to get rid now.
Hmm. True actually. Good advice.
Never! I've got loads of books, still got old
l.P's and singles and a few that pre-date vinyl, not sure what they're made of, thick, hard, seems brittle stuff. My stereo system, though old, plays all stuff.

They're likely shellac discs, made from insect secretions (I kid you not)

Today I found out DEBRA will no longer be taking in clothes in Stevenston. It has thrown a wee spanner into my house clearing activity, as I will need to take clothes to DEBRA Saltcoats.
Never mind... I will shortly hit them with around 100 books.
Probably a health and safety issue, Maybe the collections drivers gone off sick. Some charity shops scan most books received and often come up with a valuable item-which adds to the fun of volunteering on discovery.
Thing is Viv does it not give you a wee bit of the willys buying an over eighteen dvd from a charity shop? Gripes who knows what bacteria is lurking there. As for clothes a bit creepy. Wearing other folks clothes, no thanks. I remember talking to one of the local undertakers and I told him I had three suits in the wardrobe that I can't get into anymore and he said give them to me. I wonder what he had planned for them?

Hi Glenshena,
Can't really agree with your sentiment that they're lucky in the UK with all their charity shops.
I find them an abomination. Here in NL we have kringloopwinkels. A literal translations is recirculation shops.
They are very choosy about what they accept and you can find some absolutely wonderful furniture for virtually nothing. A lot of the stuff is from the homes of folk who have died and the children don't need the old furniture. (changed days). They have everything from cups and saucers to your granny's mahogany dresser that would set you back a thousand or two in Christies.

While I'm still alive I am trying to give away as much excess as possible to save my children the bother when I go. I asked a second hand dealer would he be interested in a beautiful mahogany table and 8 chairs but he said mahogany is not popular now and would probably be painted over! An antique dealer told me that antique furniture is not selling at the moment. Hopefully that will change.

God help us. We've been delivered into the hands of the philistines.
