State of The three towns
Re: State of The three towns
And don't you forget it. The main problem is that the three towns were reliant on industries that are no longer viable here and no -body has figured out what can replace them.
Re: State of The three towns
Agreed. My old grandad worked in the ICI for decades. At that time we had ironmongers in the town, all the lovely shops and all sorts (70s).
When did the ICI close?!?
When the ICI went... It became hopeless. Same with Diageo Kilmarnock. Since Diageo closed the town has gone rapidly downhill.
I don't know what will become of the toons. I know some new shops have moved in but it isn't enough. People badly need more motivation to help themselves and the community. Right now... Nobody cares.
I was in Saltcoats today... Even Hamilton Street is starting to look grim. As to Dockhead St... Run for the hills!!!!!!!

I guess when the pawn shops open up things aren't good. At least they have the best pies in the world though I have never eaten one.
Re: State of The three towns
I never liked the pies. Cakes are vroom though.

Touch of the Marie Antoinettes then. Some good news the work on the prom is progressing very well and when it opens I wonder if they will have a ceremony? Perhaps our First Lady will cut a tape or something.

Stay on topic please! We do tolerate a bit of off-topic stuff, but lately these have been expanding into little chat sessions in some of our serious topics.
You can chat all you want in McBleathers Lounge, particularly in the topic :

Re: State of The three towns
Guys, who do you think is the biggest employer in the three towns?
Re: State of The three towns
Difficult one... Hmmmm..Sandylands were recently taking on a lot of people: maintenance, handymen, reservations staff, etc.
They quite recently had an open day in February (?) I think. I heard that the local job centre were sending as many people as poss along to it one Saturday.
Maybe Highland meats too.
Hard to say. I have never heard anyone say: 'Such and such is the main employer'.
