Aye. that was the old joke. When it was a flag day in Aberdeen, the srtreets were empty, and when there was a house to house collection ,you couldn't move for the crowds in Union Street. Ha ha.

That's my memory, Denis. I remember even as a kid if I'd a penny, got a penny caramel from the wee shop by old St. John's and breaking it on the kerb to share with my pal...it's what you did. If you could afford new furniture your other stuff went to a needy neighbour. Remember the black baby fund? No doubt non pc now..we'd get what we could, money from ginger bottles etc. to donate, even those in the class in ragged hand me downs.Denis McGee wrote:Aye, you're right, Michaelm. Re: Local Lottery Winners
That reminds me of the story about the dreadful snow storm of 1947 when some houses in the Aberdeen area were completely submerged and there was so much concern for one old man that the local mountain rescue team was sent out to find him by plunging long metal rods through the snow in the hope of striking his roof tiles, and that's exactly what happened, and when they began to tap, tap, tap they heard this muffled voice shouting, "AWAY AND GIE ME PEACE - I BOUGHT A FLAG LAST YEAR."Denis McGee wrote:Aye. that was the old joke. Re: Local Lottery Winners
Does anyone still do the National Lottery since it changed. Wednesday's winners 4000 with 5 numbers won £15,but 7879 Winners with 4 numbers won £51,and 114,232 winners with 3 numbers got £25 .

£15 for 5 numbers surely that's not correct? I gave it up when they added the extra numbers had the same numbers from day 1 so packed it in.
Those wimin were in the nip.
Re: Local Lottery Winners
Well guys as you know because of the large number of folk who got 5 numbers this meant the share out was very poor. With the old pound lottery I know two guys on two separate draws with 5 numbers won £3,500 each. I think they will have to have a rethink as folk are fed up. Actually I still do it but i'm thinking of stopping because that is a rubbish pay out considering the odds against getting 5 numbers.

I should imagine lot's of people lived in a "FANTASY" world thinking they would win millions. .. when it first came came out years ago. With the price of a ticket now doubled many have seen sense and given up.
