Ardrossan Academy sports team pictures; session 1954-55

Post by down south »

Having completed the prefect pictures, I'm now moving on to pictures of sports teams. I thought it would be most convenient for those interested to group them by year rather than by sport, so I'm beginning here with those from session 1954-55. And to start with, here are the teams for hockey and rugby.

This was my first full season with the 1st XV. I think there are only three of us from the fourth form: myself, Dick McConnachie and Calumn Black - the rest are fifth and sixth year. Calum's older brother is directly behind him but I cannot remember his first name, which was never used, or his nickname. I recognize most of the faces but few of the first names. It is good to see them all. Thank you for posting Susan.

Hadn't thought to look at the names, Graham, or I might have spotted you were there. Not surprisingly, you'll be in the next two years' rugby pictures as well. By the way, I also see now that Anna Tomlinson, whom you mentioned earlier, also had made it into the hockey team by fourth year.

But in the meantime, to complete session 1954-55's pictures with the cricket team and the golf team:

Every football mad kid at Eglinton knew that, and thought it odd how Ardrossan Academy never had a football team.

Tommy hughes the sports master was responsible. For some reason he hated football. He even complained if we played at lunch.

A class mate of mine at Eglinton, Geordie Johnstone, qualified to go to the Academy, but with him being a mad keen footballer he passed up on it with his father's blessing. As stated here.
