ROY AITKEN

Post by Penny Tray »

Delighted to see Roy Aitken, of Ardrossan, inducted into the SCOTTISH FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME last night.

Roy played 672 times for Celtic and 57 times for Scotland, including the 1986 and 1990 World Cup tournaments.

He has six League Championship medals, five Scottish Cup medals, and one League Cup medal, to his name.

Well done!

Can’t take this Scottish football hall of fame seriously after the way they have treated Paul Gascoigne. One of the Uk’s greatest footballers over the last 40 yrs or so , Gazza as we know well, has had issues away from football and they have been well documented, but to treat him in this fashion is shameful.

Roy Aitken 57 caps. Made all the more laughable as you look at these guys caps.
Alan Hansen: 26
Gordon McQueen 30
Paul Hegarty 8
Bobby Lennox 10
Tommy Gemmell 18
Davie Cooper 22
Bobby Murdoch 12
Derek Johnstone 14
Charlie Nicholas 20
Jimmy Johnstone 23.
As I said, to be taken with a pinch of salt.
On a side note, I noticed that the unveiling of the new Bobby Lennox statue in countess st is not too far off. Well deserved, even though it should have been done yrs ago.
