crying out for a modern national stadium

Post by creamolafoam »

With the forthcoming scottish cup ties & another meeting with the auld enemy due to take place in the next few wks, I find it rather sad & disheartening to find we are lagging miles behind other countries across europe, in not having a proper national stadium fit for purpose.
Hampden park has long had its day in the sun, but now it is so devoid of atmosphere, fans are sick of the place. Wales, England, Ireland have all invested in new stadia. Even N.Ireland are sprucing up Windsor park.
Time for a change, & the time is now.

What and where would you suggest also how would it be financed? The only problem I personally have with hampden is the transport system. It's plenty big enough for our international needs and outwith an old firm game no other club teams would sell it out (even in a final).

Also remember we blew our chances of a new stadium in the 80s when Glasgow council pulled out of a deal and Thatcher tried to have the place raised to the ground. Thus the stadium got a measly refurbishment.
Those wimin were in the nip.

Government funding or possibly assisted with national lottery funding. Either way its needing razed to the ground & complete new build. Haven't heard of anybody in recent times having a good word to say about the place

6 or 7 years ago when they looked into building a new stadium for the commonwealth games the estimated cost was around £750m. Now much as we would all love a Wembley or principality type stadium I for one would rather see money like that spent on the health service.
