This book was written in 1999. Found it in a second hand book store a couple of weeks ago,but just got around to reading it this week. Once I started it ,there was no stopping.I loved it and wished it would go on and on.The author is Roddy Doyle and he lives in Dublin, why is it that the Irish are such great storytellers, I wonder?.All about the son of a one-legged whorehouse bouncer and settler of scores,he becomes a prince of the streets, and at fourteen he's a soldier in the Irish Citizen Army,he's also in love with his school teacher. A fantastic piece of entertainment.

Hi Josephine,

Had a look on-line at our library in Geelong. They have it as a talking book on CD. Think I'll go for it - just stick the headphones on and let someone read it to me. Hughie

That sounds like a great new way to read a book Hughie! and probably a lot quicker. (depending on how quick the reader is) I'm sure you'll enjoy the story, he's a good writer Roddy Doyle. Josephine
